Petrie boots - what are they like?

For Christmas the OH is treating me to a nice pair of leather riding boots. I have seen a pair of Petrie i love and about to order them, however thinking on i do like the Jin stirrups - however i have a limited amount so its either a nice pair of ariat boots and a nice pair of JIns OR a pair of petrie boots which i have had my eye on for well over a year!! the boots are going to be for everyday use and petrie have just the colour i want, where as the ariat only have black or brown. My budget is £400.
Does anyone have Petrie boots? how do they stand up to everyday riding? these are not going to be used for the yard just solely riding in. Also is the boot stiff leather of soft? I currently have a pair of mark todd boots and these fit nicely but are very soft leather.

Most petrie are box calf so the very hard leather. They're designed not to mould to the leg but to retain that stiff box look. Best to go try a few and see what you think. They last donkeys years and the made to measure service is very good.
 
Yes, I would agree with Ella19. I have Petries for best and Ariats for every day. They have a totally different feel to ride in, I'd say they are an out and out no compromise dressage boot. If you decide to go for the Petries, go to somewhere that sells them and let them measure you, if you are close to one of their standard sizes they will do a minor alteration quite cheaply so you get m2m boots for very little more than an off the peg price. I love mine, and would have them over a pair of Jins any day of the week!
