Doing my 1st affiliated event for 8 years tomorrow...

am winding myself up into a frenzy....

Also - it will be my first show on this new horse. (I know, I know...)

Any words of encouragement?

You'll be fine

I know how you're feeling....I did my first BSJA after a 19 year break last December...was very nervous

Now I feel like a part of the furniture at shows again, and can't remember being away at all lol!

Good luck...what classes you jumping and where ?

Personally if its the first show on the horse and your first show in years I would say everything is a bonus. Just getting to an event is great in itself cos its so easy for a horse to go lame, throw a shoe or something.
I love going to shows on a new or inexperienced horse because i feel the pressure is off

its when im riding a horse thats done it all before when the pressure is on because ppl expect more.
So all i will say is, i wish you the very best of luck, breath, and ride your turns, sit up and give the horse the best ride you can.
Oh and drink plenty of water..... lol I know random but true.

Good luck hunny

I wish I wasn't so nervous - am sure it won't help!

Feel a bit better you saying you had a break too - at least it's not just me!

As someone else, said there will always someone worse than you, so I really wouldn't worry. Just try and enjoy it, and don't go trying to win anything, just nice steady clears

I know - am really pleased am getting back into things.

Just wish these butterflies would leave me alone (pesky things)

Am so excited that I have a horse I can compete again (although only tomorrow will tell if that actually is true!) as has been so many years of hacking as horse not up to events...

Thanks - this is making me feel better

In 3 months time you'll look back at BN and think how small... It always looks big/worse when you have had a break, but get a few under your belt and you'll be fine.

Good Luck tommorow!

Hi,

I get petrified before shows too - I only seem to enjoy jumping on the way home ie once it's safely over with, then I think how much fun it was & how I can't wait to do it again...until the time comes when I've GOT to do it again & then I dread it...

What's helped me is jumping a lot higher in lessons than I do at shows. Before my horse went sick, I was competing Newcomers but jumping 1 m 20 - 1 m 25 in lessons. Most importantly, GET OFF your horse after a lesson & walk up to the jumps you've just done & measure how high they are on yourself eg as I'm small, 1 m 15 is nipple height on me. Then when you're walking the course on The Day, do the same thing - then you'll be able to see beyond doubt that the jumps are tiny compared with what you're doing in lessons.

Another thing I'd try is Bach flower rescue remedy - it's in big supermarkets or health food shops & is around £6 for a tiny bottle - but it lasts ages. Don't worry about taking the recommended 4 drops - I have a couple of good squirts. It makes you feel philosophical instead of petrified, & after you've used it a few times, you stop anticipating feeling panicky, so you don't reach the same level of nervousness. Ie you stop kind of mentally winding yourself up.

Another thing I do is drink lots of supermarket brand sports drink - great if you're too nervous to eat cos it stops you getting light headed. Be warned though that it does make you wee a lot...

Good luck! Let us know how you do...
