As per title, Blue has his assessment on Saturday to become a PAT dog.

I am sooo nervous (and its only Wednesday

) The guy who's doing the assessment sounded lovely but I soo want my boy to pass.

Has anyone done one of these assessments and have any tips?

I just had one as CC said

I was REALLY nervous too but it was fine, the ladies who assessed me were lovely.

I got there a little early and let him have a run around while I ate breakfast. Helped take the edge off both of us.

They give you lots of direction as to what they want from you and what to do next.

ETA - if you have and more specific questions about what was involved in mine PM me and I'll let you know...

I have had both of mine assessed. It all very basic stuff. Little tip, take a brush with you. When I had mine done, the assessor, said you wouldn't belive the number of people that don't and obviously bugged her.

Walk nicely on a lead, take treat well, easy to handle. They also drop a walking stick or tray to see how the dog reacts and brush the dog. That was about all.

Good luck, you'll have to let us all know how it goes.

Thanks for all the replies.

Have taken another look at the assesment form and there are no clear guidline as to what is the correct response they are looking for.

Have run through the different things on there with him and 'I think' he will be ok. Although a little excitable (tried to sit on my lap whilst kneeling on the floor) but I am his alpha dog so any attention from me he tends to be a bit silly

he's normally very calm with others.

He is very well trained and obediant and does not go to others for attention when we are out unless I say 'you can say hello'

So I guess we shall have to wait and see what Saturday holds

Thanks for all the replies - will let you know how we get on

Blue was very good bless him. Was a bit worried when we were waiting for the assessor as Blue kept winning - the assessment was in Pets at Home and he knows he gets treats in there from the girls at the tills so was getting excited

but .... he was as good as gold once we got started.

So thanks for all the replies the other day - I now have no idea what I was nervous of! lol

Oh fantastic, well done both of you!!

Is there a waiting list in your area wanting PAT dogs?

There is a residential home not far from where we live who have been requesting a PAT dog. If all goes well with the rest of the application I will hopefully be paired with them
