We looked into volunteering one of our dogs as a therapy dog & got told we would need to register & jump through plenty of other hoops AT OUR OWN EXPENSE which completely put us off. Surely, if we are prepared to volunteer time & our dog for a good cause, they should take care of the financial cost of registration at least?
ummmmmm...what a strange thing to post.
Not at all, I have always supported various charities through either donating money directly or volunteering my time to carry out work which is why I looked into this. Either is a commodity which I am giving. I just don't expect to have to pay for the privelage of helping as well, that's all.
I have helped out at a local horse charity but they don't ask me to pay to help because they are just grateful for the help in the first place.
and as I said, you can't just pitch up with a dog and let people stroke it...vulnerable people need to be protected with many many different procedures and checks, which take time and cost money...certainly not the same as turning up at the local horse charity to lend a hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that and I know how charities work but knowing how much donations are swallowed up by "administration" fees and how little of it actually gets spent on the end cause, I am reluctant to pay for the privelage of doing something that THEY want me to do.
When my grandfather was in a hospice they had a visit from some PAT dogs and the effect was astonishing. It really made his day and was all the old folks talked about for days! It's a lovely thing to volunteer for, well done anyone who has signed up![]()
