Has anyones dog ever had this.

We have had our boxer for about 2 1/2 months now. She was used as a breeders dog and we are planning on getting her speyed but she came into season not long after we got her.

But now i think she is having a phamnom pregnancy... She has been acting a bit strange. She started getting very attached to her lead - taking it everywhere with her. So i thought this was silly so took it off her and hid it in a drawer! Well she was distraught.

Then she wouldn't move off her bed and her teets have started to swell - so i gave the lead back as it made her happy!

Everymorning when i go downstairs she has taken so many things into her bed - including my chaps, shoes - the post and anything else she can find i think!

She is really quiet too - the only way she will get off her bed is if i take the lead of her - then she gets up to take it back off me! She just seems really depressed. She is not eating that well either.

Do you think its a phantom or could it be anxiety? She has seemed to be settling really well and did seem really happy up til now!

Any adivce?? I hate seeing her so sad!

hi my golden had this .i was convinced so was the vet she gained wieght had milk got really moody and lazy even got a waddle as soon as i stop treating her soft things started to improve she still has really strong seasons but as long as i treat her normal things get better.good luck

Thanks - i don't know weather to be harsh or really nice to her! If i left her she just would just lay under her blanket all day. She is happy enough when you do get her out for a walk tho!
Once she has got though this i am going to get her speyed!

The little JRT on the yard had a phantom pregnancy after her first season. It passed quite quickly. She's being spayed next week, so hopefully it won't happen again.

Just leave her get on with it.

Just be careful as I have heard of bitches who have phantom pregnancies can get very protective over items such as cuddly toys as they think it's their pups.

Was she one of many at the breeders or just a single one as she could be incredibly lonely if she's now on her own after living with company so long?
We rehomed an old Border Terrier bitch of ours when she had finished breeding, she had a wonderful home and loved the attention but she was also very quiet (and horded things like yours is), something she had never been with our gang, so her daughter joined her and it was like switching on Blackpool lights! She reverted back to the jolly dog she had been before and they both flourished; they'd come back to us for their holidays and settled straight back into the gang but the nicest thing was how madly pleased they were when their owners came back for them! So it could be simply she is lonely and this is how she's coping by having 'friends' if that makes sense and 2 1/2 months is a short time for them to adapt to such a different life, home, owners, routine and such.
Of course it could be a phantom and the best we've been told is lots of exercise, let her keep her 'friend' but keep her busy and active, then they usually forget all about it. Of course, if you're worried, call your vet for advice.

i had a racing greyhound that had a phantom season. we got a call from trainer to say sorry can not run as in season. they are then not able to run for approx 2 months then they have to trail etc and start racing again. when she came back racing woithin weeks she was in season again this time it was for real. that is why a lot of racing bitches have there season suppressed

Thanks for the advice. I took her to the vets today. She said it was a phantom. I have some medication to help her get though it quickly. So hopefully she will be a happy boxer again soon!
Then we are deff going to get her speyed. She has done her bit for breeding - too much really so she deserves to enjoy herself!
I would love to get her a friend but the OH took A LOT of work just to get one dog so i think we would be living in the shed if i got another one!!My friend has a boxer too and we go for lots of walks together so she gets to have company as much as i can!
Fingers crossed she will be happy again soon.
