Annoying things! we have loads near us always spooking the horses! Mainly because they run away from there pens near our yard
 
They are everywhere around us, especially in our garden. They look attractive, particularly the males, but they do seem a bit on the stupid side don't they! My horse hates them and they even make me jump somtimes when I'm not riding because the dog puts them up as we are walking and they squawk and make that loud whirring with their wings right next to you.
 
LOL! There are LOADS around us. Went for a long solo hack with my boy today and spotted a pheasant on the path ahead. It disappeared into a hedge before we reached it... rode past with my heel shoved RIGHT down in my stirrups with my weight back just waiting for huge reaction.... but was none.... I try and talk loudly when I see one (and random intervals on hacks) to scare them off!
 
We had a pheasant shoot on our farm, pheasants are a nightmare but the horses, even surrounded by them never batted an eyelid, I could canter around a field with them flying up just in front and horses ignored them! Used to ride up our lane and loads of young partridge/pheasant would run up the road just in front and still horses never cared. However, have since moved and so far horses still ignore them.... so far ..... But they would be a nightmare if I suppose if horses weren't used to them.....
