I am getting a new phone in the next few weeks as my contract is up for renewal soon. I am debating between the new blackberry bold (i have the 9700) and the iphone 4s! do any of you have these around horses and are they anygood? x

Don't know if this is of help... but maybe another strategy?

Mine also up for renewal and I'm going for a new smartphone. And I want to keep it in one piece.

My thoughts were that I won't take it near the horses at all - I'll leave it in the car. To take with me in the stables, out riding etc I'm going to get myself a cheapie PAYG and programme in the essential numbers and make sure the stables, hubby etc knows that number. That way if it gets knackered I only have a minimum loss. I might even use my old phone for that as it's still just about working.

I could always leave a msg on the "proper" phone that if you can't get me on that, try the alternative number.

Hope that helps, might be worth considering?

Thanks but i am a typical phone addict teen! i text between mucking out whilst im walking to field to catch ( not whilst im bringing horse in) and i give to my mum whilst i ride lol x

they were reviewing smart phone cases on the gadget show the other week....blowing them up etc! the one that one was only 15 quid...cant remember name but will be on their website. when i get an iphone....as it is inevitable!...i'll get one of those. :)

I'm not sure about cases for iphones, but my BlackBerry came with a hard case that I thank the Lord for! (Granted, my phone is white, so the case is too. Or should I say the case WAS too, it is now a lovely shade of grey, with brown stitching. It truely looks disgusting, but my phone is pristine!)
From my experince, both iphones and BlackBerrys are quite delicate - the new Bold has a nice big touchscreen just waiting to be cracked when I drop it - so invest in a tough case for whatever you get, if you intend to take it to the yard. x

Have dropped my iPhone a few times recenly - not a dent on it. Seems to be holding up well so far. I also know of people who have dropped BB's down loos, in drink etc... and they seem to dry out well. I think your safe with either!

My blackberry has been dropped a few times and is dying due to it! my bold has chips outta it scuffs, it doesnt weather very well. I havent dropped in water yet but i think that would totally kill it x

I have a motorola defy, which they advertise as being waterproof etc and has gorilla glass.

I haven't tested it and am usually ok with phones, (haven't killed one yet, touch wood) but I do always have a case

Samsung galaxy has stood up well to being with horses. Even drove over it a month ago and it still works, just the screen broke but havnt got onto insurance yet to replace, and since then it's been dropped in a water bucket too. And still works

Phone insurance is your friend when you are around horses! It really is worth the bit extra to give you piece of mind!

Every phone I have ever had has been broken in some way involving a horse at some point!!!!

The only one that has survived is my iphone - I have had in nearly 18 months. I put it in an Otterbox straight away and it has been great! Dropped, got wet, squished etc and works perfectly. Defo get an Otterbox they are fantastic. Also VERY handy to be able to check the met office app when trying to decide what rugs to put on...

I would;t have a blackberry because I tend to manage to break keys and there are lots of keys on them to break...
