Been advised by my vet not to waste money on supplements for this as they don't work , have ordered a equilibrium mask to ride in . Has anyone else tried methods with success, vet did'nt really know what to try and is going to research for me.

I was once told by my trainer who also had a headshaker that darkened contact lenses had been invented for photosensitive headshakers, mines pollen related though so I never really researched into them.

HI
UV block masks work well with photic headshakers. The Guardian mask comes in both Standard (turnout) and lightweight. The standard mask can also have a nose cover fitted which I believe further helps.
If you want to ask more please contact me through my facebook page www.facebook.com/Guardian-masks-UK-641187816013883 or take a look at the Guardian mask website www.horsemask.com . The masks are hand made in America, so the quality is excellent.

I thought contact lenses would be good for UV related eye issues, but they are not such a good idea. How often do human contact lenses come out or move? Horses won't stop and look for them when they fall out, and I'm told (although by my vet) that you need the vet to put them in, so £50 every time they move or come outjust for the call out. For this reason contact lenses are normally reserved for post op recuperation when the horse is kept in a vet hospital for recovery. shame really because they could provide 100% UV block just like human sunglasses. Much more importantly the lenses would not have to be darkened, most safety glasses now come with 100% UV block in a colourless leans. So for now we have to use mask type UV protection like www.facebook.com/Guardian-masks-UK-641187816013883. Bizarely so called Photic headshaking is improved by a nose cover, so maybe it's comparable to hayfever in Humans?
