I am thinking ahead about how to make some (cheap) presents for people at the yard and I was thinking of putting a photo in a horseshoe.

But should I -

Do it christmas themed or not ?
Paint or leave them silver ?

and how do I get some horseshoes ?

Hi.
What a good idea! I wouldn't christmas theme them so they can be displayed all year round. You could paint them silver (if they're left they might tarnish) or perhaps use the recipients colours?
The farrier will probably be pleased to give you some old shoes.

Thats a really nice idea, I am sure the farrier would give you a few old shoes if you asked

I think it would be nice to paint them but you could always do a mixture of some painted some not, you could even put names on them if you wanted to.

I wouldn't make them christmas themed unless you are planning on them being x-mas decorations.

Have fun making them :)

i did one for a wedding present for my ponys' previous owner, my farrier put it back in the fire and cleaned it up for me then took the toe clips off (they were sharp and a bit risky), once that was done my OH painted it in silver, we put ribbons on it and a pic of herself, her new hubby and the pony (had a nice one of them altogether) in the centre. we used the ponys' actual shoe as well.

If they're people from your ride, could you discreetly ask farrier for one of their horse/ponies shoes. Would make it more personal :-)

I've got one of my sadly deceased mares and my friend cleaned it and painted it for me xx

for the barefoot horses you could always ask the farrier for a shoe of similar size to their hoof.
if the barefoot people are totally against shoes then you may have to come up with something different like maybe plaiting some of the horses tail and putting it in a little frame with a pic of the horse?
