Ok guys could do with a bit of a hand here.

Basically I've got 3 months free this summer- July, August and September and will have quite alot of time to kill. I am a member of the local riding club but have no horses to ride as I fell out with my best mate- who owns the horses I was going to show with her.

Anyway, I've been thinking about emailing the riding club (who are very local, local showing classes, sj, dressage and hunter trials) asking if they would like a photographer at their shows as it doesn't seem like they have one.

To give you an idea of the photos I take, here's a selection from a show last year:

What I want to know is all you people who show locally, would you want a photographer at a show? If so what sort of prices would you be willing to pay for a photo in a mount?

This is what someone I know charges

7"x5" print £4.50
8"x6" print £6.00
10"x8" print £10.00

up to 10 photographs (jpg format) £15.00
11 to 20 photographs (jpg format) £20.00

Just to give you an idea. I've bought a few from this person and was always very pleased.

I know someone who does non-digital ones and they are more expensive and i've only bought one small one from them as i couldn't really afford a bigger size. On the plus side with him he does a 'place your order within 14 days of the show and get it cheaper' type offer!

I would be happy to buy as they are good quality photos - presume you didn't get any from the Foxhunter at Stithians?

They are very popular and if you can produce at a reasonable price I think they would go well.

No sorry I mainly got Open Working Hunter from Stithians, a few from the Accumulator, a few from the Cob and Riding Horse Class and then some of the driving class...

However I will be there again this year

Oooh goody!!

I am a photographer and looking at those I would say yes, definitely! You would need to consider setting up a web gallery and getting the show organiser to publicise it for you so people know where to look.

If you would like any advice or help then feel free to pm me.

Good luck.

Yes. Certainly do contact your Riding Club etc, people really seem to appreciate having a photographer on site.
In Wales we had a couple of really good chaps taking photos at all local shows, so much easier these days with digital cameras when you can download everything and people can see instantly what they want than when you had to wait for proofs to be printed.
I agree about sorting out a website, always good to be able to have a proper look at photos at leisure in the comfort of your own home.
One of our local photographers always takes loads of doggy and candid people shots too, don't forget those, he says that he sells a lot of them alongside the horse ones.
I suppose I'd pay about 10 pounds for something that I'd like to frame.

I would definitely say yes. Your pics are a lot better than the photographer at our riding club who has a tendency to get the horse without the jump or vice versa. We certainly have bought the odd good photo from a small show. Ideally its nice to browse a website after the event and order that way, don't know how complicated it is to set up. I 've usually spent enough at the show and don't want to lay out any more cash!

They are lovely photos but I answered that I wouldn't buy photos from a local show as I always take my own camera along and either take photos myself if daughter is competing, or get OH to take photos if I'm riding.

Yes, I love photos, I think everybody loves a photo of there baby doing them proud...Even if the photo looks bad, we pay for that photo of our horse to remember the moment. I find with digital camara I just get a heaps randon shots I never print, Where as having something like a printed photo is different. Our local club got a photographer similar to you.

they are fab photos and if they were me i would buy them, but then we always buy photos if at a competition unless they really are awful!!

They are good shots. I buy them when the photographer is there. I bought one just last weekend, it was in a brown card frame thing and it was £10. TBH I thought that it was a little expensive. It would`ve been better if they had 2 for £15 tho.
Most people like to have something to remember at a show. Go for it.
