My auntie is a really talented photographer and has just started going to events to do photography. She has some lovely shots of a recent ODE at Eland Lodge and I thought that she should set up her own website so that any riders could contact her for copies if they wanted one. How would you go about letting riders know you were doing this at an event?

She's not a professional and I'm not trying to advertise for her, just think it would be nice if the owners could know that she'd taken some beautiful pics of their horses.

i think she would have to have permission from the show organisers if she wanted to sell them, then she could advertise the fact at the show that she was taking pictures.

Whatever she does - she needs to be insured if she is going to be selling the photos. She will need a minimum of Public Liability - it's just not worth taking the risk of working uninsured.

Once this is sorted she can contact event organisers to see if she can attend as the official photographer (just turning up and shooting is not very ethical if someone has already been contracted to cover the event)

Once at the event leave cards and a poster with the secretary and if possible get a mention in the schedule.

Setting up a website is pretty easy - there are plenty of template sites that will allow you to set up a gallery. You can add a cart to accept payment via paypal.

Good luck.

My OH does that - comes with us (the yard in general) to competitions and if he gets any good shots of other riders he goes to find them by their boxes and gets their email addresses so he can send any shots on to them. But he's not interested in making money from it so slightly different but may be an idea to help get herself established a little.
