Can you think of any specific photos which would really sell a riding school to you? for example a small child sitting backwards on a pony, a horse jumping a big jump etc. What sort of photos do you think would appeal to people who know nothing about horses as well as knowledgeable people? I need to take lots of photos to go on the yard's website and I'd like some inspiration please!

I'd want lots of pictures of the facilities, and probably a gallery of the typica types of horses and ponies that are there. Photos of people jumping etc always work well as a draw too.

Charlie76 - your place looks lovely.... wish i lived near!

Giggles - I always like websites that are well organised with lots of information on prices, timetables, what to expect etc.

I'm always looking for potential places to take my horse.

I like to see pics of horse in the fields as well as pics of people jumping, in a lesson, children on lead reins, and general happy horse's heads over stables pics. I think what would sell it more than height of jumps etc would be happy faces on children/ adults and horses looking happy.

not sure if that helps

Thanks - will take all of that on board, apart from that it's a city yard and there are no fields

Do you think for photos of hacking I should wait until the trees are green and the ground is better? would mean putting the site on hold for a bit but we hack in Richmond Park, which is really beautiful in summer.

Charlie76 I love the hall place website, it's really informative and clear.

Thanks for the compliments!! We are in the process of having an even more up to date one with moving videos and a virtual xc course walk.

I think you could do the hacking pics now, as long as you wait for a bright day. I think photos of happy people on sensible horses in beautiful surroundings would be a big draw, especially in an urban area.

You could always take some more photos in the summer and if you think they are better then you can substitute them for the winter ones.

And if theyre hacking pics, see if you can get them all to wear reflectives..Theres a riding school in Weybridge thats always in Pony mag, and in all their pics they wear body protectors too. Know it sounds anal, but safety sells too. What about gneral pics of the park? Todays a lovely day!!

Photos of instructor and pupil interacting/laughing/smiling look nice and inviting.

The facilities on a nice sunny day.

Show different standards of riders - show people jumping small as well as big jumps to get the "wow look what you could be doing" but also "don't worry we don't push you in at the deep end"!

Also if you want to attract adults and children make sure you show photos of both, for example if I were looking for somewhere now (as an adult) I'd be put off by lots of photos of kids...

The facilities (schools, stables)

Some of any show jumps etc

A few of a private lunge lesson etc

One of a group lesson

Some hacking pictures

Pictures of the horses/ponies with small profiles

No fields is ok! I live in London, so am used to riding stables with no fields

Agree with TGM - why not take some on a sunny day - you can always update them in the summer if you want to. Best to get site up sooner rather than later

Also agree about safety - especially if you are trying to attract children...

I just like pics which makes a place look well run and everyone riding and working there looking happy... with happy horses too. Doesn't matter too much about whether is city or country..

Where abouts is the stables? Is it erally near Richmond Park?

Yes it's 1m from Richmond Park, by the Robin Hood Gate. Thanks for your help, everyone

I'll wait at least a week or two before I take the hacking pics at least because the ground is atrocious at the moment!

I suppose I could do a sly crop-off-the-bottoms-of-the-legs jobbie. Fingers crossed for a dry week (or more) so the ground can recover!

ETA - just been on BBC weather website and it's going to rain on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
