Photos of horses with a good Topline?

Here is a nice stretchy canter picture, I think it shows his topline quite well :)

From a while ago and not as muscled as he is now but still in quite nice shape I think!

This is when we started dressage, he's probably about 5/6 yrs old

And a ridden picture to try and help the comparison

This is him at 9 or 10 yrs

I think the difference is really easy to see when you look at ridden pictures

Picture one - in work, and two out of work. This horse has exceptional conformation and I do think you need to consider the over all shape and conformation of each horse before deciding if the top line is good, bad or indifferent. Some horses are just put together badly, unable to work correctly and will never have decent top line regardless of what you do to them or feed them.

The final picture is a curved ball for you - does it have a good top line or not ?

Very true :)

Very true :)

If you are very lucky and can see one in the rough, some may change. This is only a 2 year old and when I had him I thought he would remain an upside down moose. His neck set was so poor. However, perhaps not a Valegro but he might turn into a useful cob one day.

Born with a top line is always a bonus !

Well, I think mine may just be the Heinz 57 and be unable to hold a decent topline, she was a rescue and even though I know her breeding, part tb and part appaloosa, she isn't a pure bred like most dressage horses with lovely toplines. Although recently she has been working quite nicely..

He's only been in work 3 weeks so still a lot to go and needs to work over his back more, but hopefully with time and work this will come and he'll be overall...an awright 'orse :)
