For those that don't know, yes he is TB sire is a TB called King of Diamonds
He is 5 yrs old 16.2h. Got him from Malvern Sales on Tuesday

Will get some better pics as soon as I can

Only real faults so far are that he hasn't got a clue about standing still either walking in hand, riding or to mount. But will stand for hours outside his box. He weaves slightly

So far so good. Have hacked him out alone, he was ace! Not spooky at all. Ok so as soon as feet touched grass he thought he was 'going' but he stayed in walk all the way around a huge field, had a small trot and came back to me (not really easy but came back) had one little jog on the last bit to home but other than that he was great. He is a little strong, but the attitude is great so I think that will come with schooling.

He loves to please and trys so so hard, learning very very fast

I even took him inhand a walk around the course of jumps, with lots of fillers and flowers in the indoor school. again not at all spooky, couldn't wait to go and look at the next jump.

Then yesterday I clipped him and again he was great, a bit ticklish on his belly and did kick at the clippers a couple of times but at least he didn't kick at me (like some I have done)

His back isn't anywhere near as bad as I first thought, as when distracted with haylage he doesn't notice if I touch him in the sore spot lol It maybe that he has had a sore back before and still thinks it hurts, but chiro is booked for wednesday anyway. Shoes monday, teeth tuesday, so a busy week ahead

So far so good!!! Lets hope it stays that way

He's yummy. I love dark bays, he has a lovely face, good luck xx

I am really "into" irish breeding...Just as an FYI, your boy wont be directly out of King of Diamonds - he was an Irish Draught stallion who died mid 60's but along with Clover Hill, are (imo) the 2 real foundation stallions of the traditionial ISH. Mine is out of Coevers Diamond Boy - Grandsire KOD so related! Its a bit of a general statement because the bloodlines start to get diluted now but generally, KOD/CH tend to produce good jumping horses - and if you get a proper throwback to CH, like my previous mare, enormous ears! So guess yours will be a tradionial TB x ID mix.

Quick Hijack my lad is out of Tentore Flight (Sire Carrolls Flight) so he has KOD in his blood too.

Sorry very bad manners to hijack and not respond to OP - I should say your horse does look lovely and you will find the standing still thing develops. My lad used to take 20 mins to get to stand stil enough to mount and I can now 'park' him anywhere to get on.

Actually OP doesn't say her horse is IDx anything, nor that he has King of Diamonds lines. She specifically says he's a TB by a TB stallion called King of Diamonds. Just because there is a very famous Irish Draught called King of Diamonds does not mean that he is the only horse ever to have been called that!

It is perfectly feasible that the horse is by a TB that bears no relation whatsoever to THE KoD, other than the same name.

Look here (type in King of Diamonds)- shows that there is at least one TB stallion that is old enough to have sired OPs horse: http://www.pedigreequery.com/

Omg he is the spitting image of the mare i just sold hes gorgeous. If he goes anything like mine in the summer he'll be stunning

What an interesting link! I have just looked up my 3 TBs (2 no longer living) and found they all 3 have at least 2 relations in common. Including the same mare appearing in 2 of them. Not sure if that would be likely anyway when you go back 5 generations but then there are so many TBs about maybe it is quite a coincidence. Especially one is largely American bred one Irish/ French and one British.

I am SURE you didn't mean your post to come across in quite the way it did....

I didn't know there were pure TB's called KOD so happily stand corrected. It is the first time, ever, I have heard of a KOD that wasn't from the irish side - particularly when you look at many progency he sired - and in turn how many stallions are still standing, you can see why its so common. In fact when I searched there was no mention of these stallions... so another question for the proper TB bluffs - how come you could have registered (TB) stallions with the same names? appreciate some were in different countries but some of them were UK based. Or would it be a "current" stallion could have the name?

Boy still looks lovely, whatever he is! when I can afford another, I am definatly buying a bay again. Enjoy!

If you have any non TBs you should try www.allbreedpedigree.com- also very interesting although you will always find you can find more info on breeding when it comes to TBs than just about anything else!

Regards the similar breeding it is quite common because there are several very prepotent lines in TB- Northern Dancer being a perfect example- its almost harfd to find a TB without those lines! Sounds like yours have more unusual breeding though so very cool that they have similar ancestry!
