Went to a fun ride at the end of march, first time for me and my TB, she was very excited with the jumping - just been looking through the pics the photographer took on the day and on some of them my position looks awful! my mare is new to jumping, shes rising 5 this year and is very green. She seems to enjoy it alot but looks a bit *funny* whilst jumping on some of the pics??
Can i have some CC please, i know my position is pretty awful - alot of the time she was rushing into the fences hence the reason on some i look like am holding back!
Thanks - sorry there a bit of a pain to access - waiting for prints to come through!

Don't be too harsh on yourself :) your mare looks lovely, just a bit green really. When she is more established in her jumping she will get a bit neater.

I also think that the pics of you would look a lot better from a different angle - bet if it was side on, you would be happier with them:) I also think that the last couple of jumping shots look nice as you are giving with your hands a bit more. It's tricky when they are pulling into a fence, but you can train yourself to release just before take off so she has freedom over the fence.

I would say that your stirrups look a little bit long, and so you seem to be folding forwards a bit too much, so you look a bit out of balance (rather than sliding bum backwards and closing angles in your legs). As I said though, it's hard to say from this angle ;) I'm a fine one to talk though, I always pick photos of me jumping my girl apart :p

Looks like you had fun though :D

Hmm was just a thought :) I know that if I ever jump with my stirrups too long (like now, I'm stuck with only a dressage saddle to play with at the mo) then I tend to pivot forward over the saddle rather than fold securely, and I end up in front of the horse a bit as a result. I have about 4 holes difference between hacking and SJ length though, and up a bit more for xc.

If you usually ride long then it would feel weird to hitch them up even more :D In the first pic, from the side, I personally would find them a little long for jumping although I agree that it's different strokes for different folks ;)
