Hi, I have a solid black appaloosa x yearling filly who has lost the fur and colouring on one side of her muzzle, when it first happened she was in a paddock with lots of buttercups but was moved, it isnt sore anymore but is still a weird pinky colour do you think this is because of the buttercups? if so, will the colour return to black or stay like this and/or do you think its because she has started to spot out? but its weird as its only one side of her muzzle, I cant find anything else in the fields that could have caused it.

It is very possible...fields full of buttercups are bad news for horses,my friend had a tb that was turned out with buttercups he had a blaze and his face burnt to hell, and i believe he became light sensitive for a while??I may be wrong as it was a long time ago,but vet diagnosed it as photosensitivity due to buttercups

...at the end of the day, like ragwort, keep ya horses away from them!

I have buttercups in my field, cant stay away from them-the horses either get turned out with the buttercups or not at all. Id rather they were out than in all the time. Just got to keep an eye on new horse as he has white markings!

we used to call it buttercup rash, our 9 acres are full of creeping buttercup, pain in the arse, cant make hay, just have to top it somtimes twice a summer, wot a waste!! cant say if she will go back to black prob not. for pink noses in summer use the highest factor sun block
