I have finally concluded that my chap's sore heels are cause by sunlight - he now has it further up on his white hind legs. I've been washing, drying and then using Hoof to Heel because I thought it was a mud fever type rash, obviously I need to change the treatment but not sure what to do. Has anyone had this problem?

My boy has a photosensitive reaction on his legs. I use Boots own nappy rash cream as a barrier and it has cleared it up and he's been scab free for 3weeks

get bloods done asap to check his liver if you think it is photosensitivty. Wash with tea tree shampoo and apply aloe vera jelly and keep out of sun light i had to do this with my pony but usually horses only get burnt if there is something wrong with there liver a part from normal burning on there noises! it might be worth apply an sun block to her white areas as well!x

I use aromaheel by aromesse and put over reach boots on the feet affected in her case the hinds.

She has a scally growth as opposed to a burn though more of a dermatitus than sun burn.

My horse has had this in the past. I found that covering it up rather than applying loads of creams worked best for him. I tried everything and it took ages to work out what the problem was. Mud fever creams, mite creams, blood tests etc and got 2 vets opinions and in the end it was photosensitivity. My horse was bad though as he got lymphagitis and it was infected.

I used over reach boots on all 4 feet to cover his heels and then Cashel Crusader do leg wraps that are uv filtered and the same material as fly masks. They cover up to their knees. After wearing these for a few days the improvement was really noticable. They are expensive but last ages and lets their skin breath to recover.
You can get them in the uk but this link shows you what they are like

Hope your horse it better soon

Use a high factor suncream...childrens is normally the highest, waterproof and can be coloured which helps to see where you have put it and also you can see if it's warn off.
My horse gets a sunburnt nose and didn't like the cream being slapped on but didn't mind the sticks (face stick) so ended up looking like a cricketer or surfing dude!!!
Boots (soltan range) is quite cheap but try Ebay. Don't go applying expensive suncream.
Avon also do a good sensitive skin range.
