Physical checks for a ponys first hunt?

What are the physical checks of a horse if you want to go hunting? It's both of our first times and not sure how fit he needs to be for his first hunt. What are the checks and also what do you need to do to get then fit if they are not?

how much work is he doing and how often?

He gets ridden every day for at least an hour. He gets hacked, schooled and jumped with xc every once in a blue moon and if I'm on a hack we will be trotting it all.

try to do as much road work as you can and take him hunting, if you feel he is tiring you can leave the hunt and hack back at walk, you dont have to stay out for the whole day
