My 21 year old horse injured her shoulder at start of December, had vet out 3 times & she was prescribed semi box rest (hour or so of individual quiet turnout) & Danilon. My vet didn't see any reason why she wouldn't make a full recovery in time. I asked about physio and he said it wasn't necessary. This has all run up an enormous vet bill and I have sent claim form off keeping my fingers crossed that my insurance will pay out (injury only). I have been made to feel like the worst owner in the world by someone at my yard because I haven't had physio and they have said my horse will never get better! Obviously if my vet had said she needed it I would have got someone out but am now doubting myself and wondering if I am doing the right thing?

Your horse probably will fully recover without physio but physio can improve that recovery both in the time it takes and in the horses ability to move freely in general, often following injury other muscles take the strain of compensating and can cause further problems.
I think it a shame when vets do not recommend physio following muscular injuries, I always get mine checked and find real benefits, the recovery can often be speeded up with appropriate treatment, not rushed but the sooner the horse can get off box rest the better in my view.

The treatment, if the vet recommended it, may be paid by your insurance, check the small print.
