Hi
I was just hoping for some advice re getting my horse "checked out".....should i be calling a physiotherapist or a chiropractor?!
i am aware people say you should get their backs checked regularly but what do you actually need to check....bones i.e. chiropractor or muscles i.e. physio......or both in the ideal world i guess? unfortunately i do not have endless streams of money (who does?!)
i can't say i have been experiencing major problems but i am not aware when was the last time she was checked over (i have shared her for 18 months but have now taken over full loan)
her saddle has been checked and it fits correctly but she does get grumpy and bites when the girth is done up. i have also noticed, when i groom her, that she dips her back/stomach down when i brush certain areas.
over the past couple of months we have been having trouble with our canter strike off on the right rein, we can't get the correct leg first time. canter is our achilles heel but the transition on the right rein has deteriorated.
finally, the last couple of times i have ridden her she has been resisting the leg, reacting to being squeezed by tucking her chin towards her chest whilst nipping the air and refusing to go forward. if i persist too much she throws her head and feels like she's threatening to rear. this is in walk, once she's going forward she seems fine. it started when i was using spurs (have used them a lot so not new) so didin't know if she was just having a tantrum at having to work, but took them off and she continued. she is a girl though and thought she might be a little 'sensitive' if she's due into season.......am i being too soft and being given the run around or would you think it a little more sinister?
sorry its a bit long but any thoughts/opinions/advice would be appreciated!
thanks for reading
