It isn't something I do regularly at all. I will get a session booked if I am about to up their workload as an advance check to make sure that there is nothing untoward before starting, and I might repeat afterwards. I tend to do long distance rides at a leisurely pace (say 80 odd miles over 3 to 4 days) so it makes sense to me to make sure the pony is good to go and hasn't developed something as a result. I would also consider it if I felt there was something up, along with the obvious vet check.
