Can anyone recommend a good physiotherapist in the Stratford upon Avon area? My boy has had a nasty laceration to his hock, and has been on box rest. any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
In answer to your question, yes it is specifically to deal with the hock., He got caught up in the electric fencing and sliced into the front of his hock down to the bone, but thankfully not the joint!! He had surgery to clean it all out and check the joint throughly and has now been on box rest for five or six weeks. He is wearing a pressage bandage now with just the dressing over what is left of the wound. It is now closed up but there is a lot of granulation (some of which I think the vet will remove on his next visit next week). My vet has suggested that now is the time to get a physio in to start work on him. I guess some of it is also to help free the joint back up as it has been dressed quite substantially til now.
My Mctimoney Chiropractor is coming out next week to treat him, but I understand that physio will work directly on the hock area itself. Correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

I hope your horse recovers soon and fully.

Speak to your physio or sports massage therapist about using ice cup massage around the laceration, as coupled with massage it helps with reducing adhesions around the wound & the generation of healthy tissue.

I don't think a chiropractor is the right person as it's the skin, fascia & soft tissue that needs to heal & the fibroblasts can easily be torn by too much skeletal movement whilst in recovery. But talk to your vet to be sure.

Good luck.

thanks for your advice. Will definitely try to sort out one of the recommended names to have a look at him.
As for my Chiropractor, the vet has given me the go ahead, and I have already spoken to her about the fact that she may not be able to carry out a full treatment just yet. I know that she will not be doing anything specifically for his hock, I am just concerned that some of his stiffness throughout his bodyand that he has in his neck and shoulders at the moment are probably due to the accident itself, and possibly whilst under the general during his surgery. I just want everywhere to be more comfortable for him now. I have tried the normal "carrot" exercises of stretching his neck from side to side, and between his knees. Basically I am just trying to cover all the issues I can for him.
Thanks again
