Hi,

Was just wondering whether there as a preference amongst horse owners using physios who have previously trained as human phyios and then as equine (7 years training) or physios who have done an animal/vet physiotherapy course (approx. 2 years).

Do people enquire about which qualification the physiotherapist has before using them?

Does price play a part in your decision?

I would always use a physio that is fully qualified and a member of ACPAT, so would ask before using them.

Price is not really a consideration, although I have found they are all much the same in my area anyway, qualified or not.

I can strongly recommend my guy who is a McTimoney Chiropractor that is also a physio. If you PM me I can give you his name and number.

I won't use anyone who isn't ACPAT registered. I'm sure there are many excellent therapists out there, but it's not a risk I am prepared to take.

I am a non ACPAT physio and during my training I saw practice with both ACPAT and non. I would say that there is little difference between the two, and think there are good and bad practitioners within both groups. I think the problem with the non ACPATs is that there is no regulation or overall governing body, so anybody can call themselves anything. This is changing.
The course that I did is in the same educational tier as a masters degree, I hold a BSc and am working as an equine vet nurse so I think it is just different experience.
I would be interested in the reasoning for people just using ACPAT (BTW I have nothing against them!)

I agree with you Grey-Arab. I have been so disappointed over the years with many ACPAT and finally found Neil Saunders, McTimoney Chiropractor and he had the knowledge of everything and is now inundated working on top performance horses, which speaks volumes.
