I didn't know Arabs could be ridden...

You are surely joking?!!

They are the most delightful riding horses - and acknowledged as the best breed for endurance: almost all the top endurance horses are Arabs or PBAs. And of course Arab racing is now a serious sport in its own right.

Yes, I was being naughty.
I'm sorry, htobago, but sometimes I get possessed by the forum daemons and they make me do stuff.
I actually like Arabs and used to get on well with them especially part bred Arabs...but I'm too tall for them at 5' 10".
And yes, I've jumped them (although it didn't seem to come so naturally as to other breeds).

I did think shilasdair must be taking the mickey, but then had a sudden blonde moment and thought I'd better set her straight on this 'just in case'!

You'd never know that a whole chapter of my last book was about irony, would you?

And nice for you as well - a nice link to your old boy with your new one!!

Yes! It would somehow make things complete. And be a little tribute from me to GLG. I ran away from horses altogether when GLG died - couldn't even bring myself to ride, let alone even think of getting another horse, for about 13 years.

So I lost touch with this nice friend - but I tracked her down when I got back into Arabs with Tobago last year, and we renewed both our friendship and our 'breeding connection': she now has a very pretty mare in foal to him (not a GLG mare, but we may do this cross later).

Absolutely none taken!

By the way - I forgot to mention that GLG was only 5 years old when that photo was taken at Batsford Horse Trials!

I remember leading him around after we unloaded from the lorry - he was prancing about and shouting a bit, and an official came up to me and told me to me to 'keep that silly little Arab away from the proper horses that are competing here'!

I explained politely that the silly little Arab was actually also competing, but he wouldn't believe me - I had to take him back to the lorry and produce his number and his rider to confirm that he was entered.

The steward never apologised, just told the rider he 'must be completely bonkers' and stomped off!
