Hi everyone- is there such a thing as a canine pick me up, my friends dog is rather under the weather and not his normal self at the moment. Thanks

She says its like he has a bit of depression, eating etc as normal but not so excited about life. Not rushing to the door at walk times or running around Park when they get there. Bit hard to pinpoint really. He has suffered a bout of conjunctivitus though, could it be to do with that ?

I'm sure as a caring owner your friend's instinct that her dog isn't his usual self is a reliable sign there's something worth investigating by the vet.

A general check up and possibly blood tests would be the way to go.

I wouldn't give any kind of pick me up in case the dog has kidney or liver problems. I made that mistake with my dog when she began to have renal failure and she ended up having to have her kidneys flushed. I don't know if it was a direct result, but I'm left with the guilt it could have been too much for her system.

Your friend should trust her instinct and take her dog to the vet.

Just to say that following a visit to the vets it was nothing serious, they just said sometimes dogs are like people and feel a bit down, the vet did ask if his routine had changed and it had in that my friend has been working long hours fulltime for the last three weeks and so they thought maybe it was a bit of anxiety over being left.
