Pick up your horse's pooh from the road!!

Ive been asked this once by a motorcyclist. He was simply told that in the country you get animal muck, mud, road kill, livestock and quite often Mr Farmer out in his huge tractor taking up 3/4 of the road, our roads may be quiet but their by no means safe and if he couldnt be bothered to ride his bike with due care and attention then he'd be better off back in the town/cities. Having muck on the roads is a part of living in the countryside, I would however remove any muck that my horse left if I were riding through the town/ village so people didnt have to avoid it, even tho im not obliged to. Need i say he went very quiet after that wee rant lol.

Wasn't there a debate on radio 2 a while back about horse poo on the roads? I remember being incensed by the whiny motorcyclist on there, whining and moaning about how dangerous it was for him on his bike. Shouldn't be out on the road if he can't negotiate a bit of horse *****!! made me really mad, but it was all over before I managed to fire off an email in retort!

Hi there!

I'm forced to do hacking on the roads around my livery yard, as there are no bridleways :-( My horse would usually do a pooh or two whilst out and about, and it usually happens at the precise moment when we pass someone walking their dog/doing gardening, etc...

Do you have a good argument as to why you're not going to pick up your horse's pooh from the road whilst out hacking?

Although most people would just look the other way when they see my horse doing a big old smelly pooh, I've once been asked to clean up my horse's mess (as dog owners have to clean up their dog mess)... I just can't see myself dismounting, getting the pooh in a bag somehow, jumping back on board and then carrying the heavy pooh bag back to the yard...

I'd mention that as a horse only ingests grass and such like it's poo is far less offensive than a dog eating meat substances etc. Same reason I'd chuck horse poo on a muckheap and not dogs.
If they have a huge issue ask if they have contacted anyone re: birds cr*pping on cars, foxes and badgers in gardens etc etc

I have however kicked poo into the road that was done when tucking into a driveway as that isn't public and technically we shouldn't have been there, no point in annoying friendly locals as their drives were essential as passing spaces where we used to hack.
