Pickle has had a quiet time over Christmas, having had the best part of 4 weeks on holiday, he is feeling very well! I decided we needed a bit of practice before the JAS as the last time we went out jumping before Christmas I managed to fall off. So on Thursday I toddled off to a local venue for some BS. The plan was to play safe and do the BN and the Discovery. However when I got there I found the warm up arena was a bog, and upon walking the BN course the striding seemed a little wacky :confused3:. I went in 3rd and managed to jump a double clear, but in true eventer fashion, I was slow in the jump off! However nobody else in the class managed to leave all the fences up (remember the wacky striding I mentioned earlier!), so we won. I didn't bother jumping the Disco as I thought it best to save him for a day when the warm up wasn't a bog, and the striding was a bit more normal. So for once I experienced a new sensation, to go home with more money in my pocket than I left with!!!
So onto today which was the JAS at Bishop Burton. I just did the BE100 class, as Pickle isn't quite up to full fitness yet. Pickle was wild, and proceeded to try barge out of the lorry as we were trying to tack up. Eventually we gave up trying and took him round to the indoor warm up arena to finish tacking up (in case you have been living in a cave the weather today was not what I would call tropical!). Hopped on, attempted and failed at the warm up (missed at every jump, and generally rode badly). Gave myself a kick up the ar$e and in we went.
Good shot to the first
Round and over the 2nd (Please excuse the bum shot, I warn you there are a fair few, so if you have a sensitive nature feel free not to look any further!)
Popped the 3rd
A nice 3 strides down to a skinny at 4, then 4 strides on a curve to 5.
Over the planks at 6
Then a dog leg to the last SJ at 7.
Straight on to the XC and over the hedge oxer at 8.
4 curving strides to the gate.
Then another curving 4 strides to the corner.
Round to the arrowhead at 11, then back across the arena to the double at 12.
And to a skinny.
Curved round to a double, then 3 strides to another skinny at 15, before curving down the 16 in 5 strides.
So all in all felt a pretty decent round. Double clear, but I got 2 time penalties on the XC. Here is the video, can't guarantee it will work, as my technology seems to be misbehaving this evening!
AAArrrggghhh, the video doesn't want to work!
Put Pickle away, and went to look at the scores to find I had a style score of 16, 4 penalties ahead of anybody elses! So even with my 2 time penalties we managed to win the class :biggrin3:.
So a very good start to 2014. Although the only way is down from now on! next week the plan is to do the Novice JAS at Arena Uk, and see if I mess up over a bigger track!
