He went out into his pen yesterday for the first time since his injury/surgery . . . he was very, very happy to be out, however, he turned that section of paddock into a plowed field b/c it's so boggy, so we need to think about moving his pen to another field.

Today we went for a walk around the gallops and I will long rein him tomorrow. He is being sat on for the first time since the injury on Thursday and is being reclipped on Monday. So . . . all looking positive :).

Glad to see he's on the mend :)
He looks like such a sweet heart bless him, my little grey monster looks like a grump 99% of the time

Thanks Montyforever . . . he's actually a total dude - and he's being SUCH a good patient. He does have his grumpy moments though and can flatten his ears with the best of them ;).

great news so nice to see him out and looking good.:)

Yes, fab to see him out . . . he wore himself out yesterday (pretty much paced his pen for two hours straight) so was very chilled when I walked him in hand round the gallops this morning . . . I think it did his brain the world of good.

Only slight worry is that the vets clipped his leg right down to the skin for surgery and there is some obvious irritation - as he's had mud fever before, it's something I'm watching like a hawk. Fingers are tightly crossed!

And toes I hope!!:p Shares in Sudo Cream on the cards then!!!!

OMG! I actually thought he was a donkey having seen past posts of yours. Apologies!!!!

LOL :). We are seriously thinking of changing his competition name to The GreyDonkey just for a giggle . . . go down well for his next stressage competition eh?

I call him The GreyDonkey because he so patently isn't a donkey - although he does have rather large ears. He's a Polish sporthorse and is very sweet, although sharp and quirky. Also stubborn like a donkey ;).

Aww glad he is on the mend, and isn't he being sensible!

a) he had had three clicks of Sedalin; and b) that pen is so small that he can't get up enough speed to be too terribly naughty . . . it only takes him about three to four strides for him to get from one side to the other ;) Basically, he's got no choice other than to be sensible . . . insert evil grin :D.

That said, he was a saint today when I took him round the gallops in hand - no Sedalin and although he was wearing his bridle with the leadrope fed between the bit rings underneath his chin he didn't need it . . . he wasn't even bothered when Millie the Filly came cantering over to say hello.

PS - so glad all is coming together so quickly for you
He's certainly looking like he's taking all in his stride, just need me to get fixed & sit on NH soon & then we can bowl over for a meet & hack (as planned last summer!!:D ) - about 6 weeks or so I reckon.... (hope!)

Yes, very pleased with him. Just you be careful about not rushing your recovery Missus . . . we want you fully recovered, not halfway recovered . . . and, yes please to the hack :).

Hows the boy doing today?

He's feeling rather smug. Note to self: when a horse coming back into work is being long-reined round the gallops and has a "moment" and attempts to bog off keep a firm hold of your knitting . . . or risk dropping the end of one of the lunge lines and having it wrap around your legs resulting in you being felled like a tree . . . thankfully all the mud about at the moment resulted in a soft landing . . . and the Donkey in question cantered home sound, even after jumping some electric tape . . . sigh . . . trotted him up and he's still sound . . . he's lucky he's not off to Tescos ;).

I'm going to long rein him in the school over some poles this evening and then he's being sat on tomorrow. Hopefully he's going back out into his pen - re-erected in his new field where there is less mud - this weekend.

I had to laugh yesterday . . . when I caught up with the little so-and-so he was grazing near his old fieldmates . . . but to be honest we were both lucky - me not to have been dragged; and him not have ended up with one or both lunge lines around a back leg.

Up until that point, though, he was a saint . . . soft, round, light in my hands and didn't turn a hair when Milly the Filly not only cantered up to him but also had a good buck and fart along the fence line right next to him. Either something spooked him or he was just plain tired of being good :).

Yes you should - it was funny. When I made it back to the yard two of my yardmates fell about laughing . . . and I laughed right along with them.

I'm not sitting on him tomorrow - the woman who events him is . . . when she offered to be a crash test dummy I rapidly accepted :D.

Odds are he'll be a saint for her though . . . my turn on Friday

Wow, you were both lucky. I'm glad he is feeling well, but it would be nice if you could tell them to take it easy and they listened!

Yes, we were . . . very lucky indeed. I can't wait until he can go out for extended periods of time and is back in work and is calmer.

On the plus side, he's made of tough stuff . . . he hasn't taken a lame step or had any bute since the day of his surgery. He is now on a loading dose of MSM to see if we can support those hocks before they cause a problem.

This is what he was doing last summer:

. . . and the day before his injury he jumped well over a metre. Fingers' crossed we can get him back to this or better.
