Getting a bit fed up with saddles now. Seen 3 different saddlers and still unhappy with the result. Currently in an Ideal VSD (17") which has been padded out with a Prolite multi riser as my horse has built up more muscle on the left in comparison to the right. Saddle seems to fit him (ish) but throws me right back into the cantle, resulting in pressure at the rear of the saddle, crappy position and an unhappy horse.

I've never really thought about treeless saddles but having reached the point of giving up with treed saddles I wondered what everyone's opinions on them are? I'm particularly interested in the HM saddles.

Horse is short backed, 15.3 TB wonky and changes shape regularly! Long wither but not crazily high

Any help much appreciated!!

Pic - Pls excuse the wet bits, he'd just been washed off!!

I quite like our treeless saddles, but they do tend to suit rounder, flatter backed horses better. It might be worth investigating the flexible panel route with your boy as they often suit those with withers.

I love my FlexEE, though it's technically not really treeless.

The other day I lent it to someone who was really losing confidence in her new horse as he was very rushy and bucked in trot and canter.
Instant change in him - much more relaxed, calm transitions, and no bucking whatsoever.

Having been trained to fit HM saddles, that doesn't look like a shape that would present an impossible challenge. You can ask a fitter to fit you a saddle and have it on trial, which might be useful.

Thanks for your replies. Struggling to find a HM fitter in my area but trying! I'm not confident about fitting one myself so will definitely keep looking for a fitter

Have you thought about a WOW? You can put a short panel on a longer seat, and they are completely adjustable for unevenly muscled horses. They come up often on eBay second hand, but they are expensive.

Don't be too put off by price, you can get some great bargains second hand. :)

I don't think my budget could stretch to a WOW - even second hand they're so expensive!!

His back is never Ideal VSD shaped! I'll add Reactor Panel as ones to look at, they are very adjustable if he keeps altering shape.

I know :(, it chucks me right onto the back of the saddle too. Haven't looked at the Reactor Panels - will have a peep!

HOPEFULLY trying a HM Flexee at the weekend :) yay

If theres no fitter in your area its worth asking on the FlexEE fb page if anyone would travel to you if you could get a group together? Hardest place is Scotland I think though.

I love my flexEE and my vogue, cant see OP's horse being a difficult fit tbh either.

I love the HM Vogue for my girls, suits the very high and long withered TBXWB and the flatter-backed baby, as well as the short-backed and complicated LP. I have the dressage version and have jumped 2'9"/3' in it without any problems(!). The first mare (shaped quite like your horse) also got on well with the FlexEE, though for reasons unknown the youngster didn't, so I'd recommend either of those as worth trying!

I'm leaning more towards a second hand Vogue now. Sadly fitter can't come out for a while now :(... i'm tempted to give it a try... hmm...
