Druid asked me to put up some pics of Derek's (Treliver Decanter) 2yr old son that I bred.

Fanta is now 15.1 from a 14 hh 3/4 Welsh, 1/4 AA mare as first foal and Derek is 17hh. My theory was the foal would be 15.2 at maturity but as Fanta is 15.1 now at 23 months I reckon he'll make 16hh easily (theory gone out the window here !!)

These 2 photos were taken last Nov. when he was 18 months old and since then he's matured and filled out and is now a huge cuddly show-off with both parents temp. (he comes to you, puts his chin on my left shoulder and wants his morning kisses and is great at mutual grooming - had my farrier in stitches last thursday).

He's got his dad's paces and definitely likes showing off like his dad. Gill saw him a few weeks ago and thought he was very nice - so I'm not totally biased. He is for sale but only 'cos he isn't a filly and/or isn't palomino - but his dam will return to Derek in a couple of years all being well and I'll have another go at a palomino filly...dam is bay so I've only got a 25% chance !!

excuse the sweat on his shoulder - he'd just done a bit of loose schooling and these are the best of a bunch of photos we took but the ones in 'proper' sideways view he didn't smile for the camera properly ;-)

Oh, he's very nice indeed!! I have to ask..what colour is he technically? It's lovely whatever its called!

(Druid..who is now ridiculously excited about Oscar arriving!!)

He's dark dun - look inside ears and on muzzle

he was almost dark bay but 'wasn't' when he was born and the lighter body turned up last autumn finally

ironically his mum's half brother was by a similar coloured dark dun connemara and I saw piccys of him at various stages of his life and he looked almost dark bay at times and then this dark dun lighter hairstyle at other times - seasonal

I'm waiting to see what colour he goes this summer !!

I wanted to say dun but wasn't sure Bay x Palomino could produce Dun...really must catch up on my coat colour genetics!

Lol, we have one of those colour changing ponies at work - Connemara 3yo who has so far managed to variously look bay, roan, dun and grey depending on her coat in any season! Her passports purports that she's dun too...

Just been copying the markings from passport for nomination form for 2yr old's grandma and forgot that one her markings in summer she also has a bright bay dorsal stripe on a bright chestnut mare - so I think there is a hint of dun coming thru there as well.

Ah, our Connemara's dam is a bay w/ a dorsal stripe too - maybe that is a mark of dun parentage soemhwere

Aw he is gorgeous and has a very sweet and kind face

He will make a lovely horse in the future as he looks to have the sweetest temperament
Cazx
