Pics of tooth abcess, for those interested.

Following my other post in vets and NL.

Heres some pics of my boys drain, which im flushing out twice a day. He goes back to the vet on christmas eve, for another xray. If they still dont like the look of his tooth/ abcess, his is too be booked in first day back after new year too have it out.

This i am really worried about.

Here is the drain, they wanted to put it into the sinus under his eye as this is where the fluid is. However horse has two blood vessels running over it, so they have put it in top sinus to flush them both.

From the side, where i connect up to flush it.

Back home after the vets tucking into his tea!!

It looks awful doesnt it, my horse had the same and later one was also put in the sinus below his eye. My boy had his tooth out under GA via a bone flap in the side of his face. It looked horrific but healed much better than I could ever had imagined. The then missing tooth still caused problems on and off for a couple of years later, even now I sometimes smell that awful pussy smell but touch wood its not caused any problems.
Good luck with your horse, try not to worry, Im sure it will all work out fine

He was very quiet, and not himself. He also had snotty nose, but just coming down one nostrel.(sp?)
He also was sore to touch under is eye, as this is the affected sinus.

He is very brave, and hes being a complete star to flush it out twice a day.

We are off to vets tomorrow, so this time then i will know abit more.

He IS a brave horse, it must have been painful. Hope his recovery goes well and if the tooth has to come out I am sure he won't miss it!

How did he get on today?

His xray looks mucvh better, so we are down to once every other day with the drain. Vets back out on new years eve to see if drain can come out, that if shes still happy with thinks. Thanks for asking.

hi hope your neddy is getting on ok.
just wondering my old TB had 2 teeth out on the 23rd under just sedation as he is 28! he has a large abscess in the cavity under his eye and they made an hole in the skin not the bone as he was still awake to squeeze the pus out!....its been coming out of the wound in the side of his face where they took the teeth out as well as the hole, nose and mouth!....did they say how long in your horse it would take to drain completely?
