Just a photo to show our new little edition to our family: we foster him from a local horse rescue centre who found him 10 months ago tied up to a lamp post after being let loose on a busy main road. He is a 13.3hh 4 and half year old gelding, a real big softie although he has a few little respect issues on the ground but learning fast. My 7 yr old daughter has had a little ride and he has been wonderful.

Do you think we could show him in coloured classes and what do you think of him conformationally? We gave him a bath on Sunday and wow I have never had a horse with so much hair!!!! It took ages but very very satisfying when he turned out like this.....

Cobs can definitely be cute and he is gorgeous. Hope you and your family have lots of fun with him.
Yes coloured cobs with feathers mane and tail = a whole new bathing experience. ;)
Do you find he malts mainly on the white bits?

Someone doesn't know what they've given away! He is nice all over, has a very good shoulder and decent withers for a cob.

Thanks all. And no, he doesnt look that clean any more!!!

Anyone got any tips for looking after all those feathers in winter. I can barely see the skin as it is... do the feathers keep all the mud away from the skin or am I going to be extra vigilant with regards to mud fever. His feather comes right to the floor all the way round his hoof so its going to be wet and muddy all winter (he will be living out) although the fields arent that bad and will have a field shelter with dry floor and a concrete yard to stand off the mud. Will I need to make sure he has periods of drying out? Arghhh- used to little fine hair legs, pulled manes and tails so this will be a fun learning curve!
