Following on from my conformation post, please would some kind person find me an image of a horse with a 'roached back'?

Thanks!

Also, can you do anything to improve this?
Are there limitations to what the horse can do?

It was mentioned, but that is not the reason I am asking

I just cannot put an image to what people have said about them

I'm trying to keep my mind occupied, myself away from all the literature I have on suspensorys and concentrate on something else

She doesn't have a roached back - repeat it and believe it.

Didn't read all of the posts - but generally, she's as nice a horse as anyone could hope to have.

Now, what else can we occupy your mind with?

Suduco anyone???

Te he... honestly, at the moment I am thinking of things to research to keep my bloody fingers away from typing SUSPENSORY NEURECTOMY RECOVERY!!!

I had a horse with a mild roached back, it disappeared completely with correct schooling, correct feed and a small amount of attention from a skilled "back person". Don't have a pic on hand though, sorry. It can be little more than a tendency to stand in a certain way if you're trying to assess conformation from a photoshoot.

A true roached back is the result of elongated spinal processes and will not ever reduce. However horses with this type of back don't tend to have alot of back trouble IME, there is a thought that they have less flexion/mobility but I've never found it to be a problem and it wouldn't put me off buying a horse at all.

Must say though that I'm not thinking of a cases milder than the pics above which are quite severe. Roach backs can also hinder saddle fitting but only if extreme.

Some horses appear to have a roached back and this can be caused by muscle problems and from them holding themselves wrongly due to discomfort often over a very long period of time. This is often associated with stifle problems I believe.
