I think that your collie is lovely, she reminds me very much of one i used to have. I now have her grandaughter and i would love to breed from her and carry on the line.
She certainly looks like a pure collie, have you tried her around sheep (carefully) as all collies worth their salt will instincivily (sp) behave like a sheepdog. I doubt very much that you could do any test to prove she is purebred but if she was mine i would be inclined to just assume she was. I understand what everybody is saying about unwanted dogs but if you think you can get homes for the puppies then i would say go ahead .
This is a prime example of feckless breeding...sorry this sounds harsh...but it's a fact....many people state they can find homes for all puppies....it's not always he case when the time comes
and if you do..it's because they are cute puppies.
Please make sure...you draw up a contract for these puppies that will become dogs to be returned to u when they can no longer be kept by the purchaser...this way you are making sure they don't end up dumped at the nearest rescue....thats is something every responsible breeder should do.
She certainly looks like a border colli and is a pretty girl...still not a good reason to breed though...but for someone to have to tell you that...when that does not fill me with hope either
I am only familiar with Scottish border collies as these are what I have always had. None of mine had long snouts like your girl; however if she is a Welsh variation then this may be normal. My dogs always had prick ears as opposed to your girls half floppy ears, but again that could just be different standards in strains.
I had buyers from the moment my bitch was raped by the visiting collie. Once the puppies came along, I actually had more buyers than puppies. I see all of my puppies almost every day and they have all turned out to be wonderful little pups.
All of my buyers know that, if for any reason, at ANY point in time, they cannot keep their dogs, I will happily have them back; I'd have all of them back if that was the case, so my puppies will never be unwanted.
No I know. What I am saying though, is that we can't really judge Caggie here, she could quite easily be of a similar character to me and would offer her pups homes for life, if necessary?
For me, it is almost as if my girl's puppies never left here lol!! They are here, pretty much, all the time so I might aswell have kept them all.
I see your point Tia...that is why I don't participate in the majority of the breeding posts, as I dont want to seem like im on a breeding rant...but I would not be me if I didn't voice my opinion as others do....Im not judging...simply disagreeing with the breeding from a rescue IMO....should not be done.
If we didn't have the meat men buying up unwanted/useless horses, how many would be roaming round wild?.don't hear anybody here being told not to breed from a horse cos there are too many around already. All local auctions always have a number of horses that nobody wants....yet plenty people still breed horses and ponies and thats different??
My point being, we see stray dogs roaming, we don't see stray horses to that extent cos they end up in a tin.
Well you know that I totally agree with you, I was just putting a different perspective on things.
No way would I have bred my little Springer; Lily becoming pregnant was a result of some frolicking with an imposter! And when the little blighter was seen again a couple of months after the puppies were born, the first thing I did was spend over a thousand dollars having all of my girls fixed.
To be honest, there are loads of pedigree dogs in rescues too, so I don't feel it is really all down to breeding pedigrees OR crossbreds, it's more down to peoples attitudes in assuming their responsibilities in life. I accepted that my bitch was having puppies and when I decided to go ahead with her pregnancy, I therefore accepted that there was the possibility of all the pups living with me forever.
Tia, I do get your point - and I know I probably say too much about breeding on here... But I don't see why people think its ok to breed un-health tested dogs of unknown origin when their dog may get HD by the time it's 4 and all of its puppies could also have HD at an early age too.... then the vets bills would be huge and the animals have a reduced quality of life.(just an example - I know there is also the chance they are all healthy).
I understand there are mistakes - and I don't judge those people in the same way - but making a conscious choice is differnt.
Incidentally - I also feel the same about people who breed from horses with poor conformation or who are 'retired' due to lameness that could be inherited - just because they want to...
Well thats something else.breeding off lame horses......wonder if they have ever been pregnant.....and with a bad back or sore legs etc.....
I agree with breeding from good stock...but you can have the best of the best and still get a rubbish foal...doesn't matter, cos the paperwork says its by.......***** with such bloodlines.and there is always somebody out there wanting to buy.
I have miniature dachshunds.....we had an old one and then bought another.....and then another..so we had 3 but the 2 younger ones decided to breed...so we ended up with 6...and I love them but now we have to do something or we will be in a real old mess.
and as for pedigree dogs...can't really see any sane person breeding a litter and selling them at a loss..and then doing it all over again??.as long as people will pay, others will breed..and the price of some puppies.mind boggles!!..a months wages for a puppy???
If we take it a step further re pedigree dogs...show me a breed which hasn't got some in bred problems..still plenty of them around though.
I have no problems with you saying what you say - I actually agree with you
. I didn't choose to breed any of my bitches, but I did leave the door open for it happening. My dogs never ever leave their home and, living where I live, the thought did not occur to me that others are not so diligent or that any dog could even find my girls here. All of the dogs in my immediate farming neighbourhood are bitches so I didn't see the threat. My mistake and, ultimately, my responsibility.
Caggie; my take on it is this; I personally wouldn't go out of my way to breed this bitch if she belonged to me. Hope that clarifies my stance.
Hiya.well I didn't choose to breed mine.they did it behind my back!! was a conspiracy.......lol....and we only had 3 pups...and I think the breed don't have big litters anyway.but they are here to stay.but all of them are being sorted at the vets..just don't want them all doing on the same day in case any one sick is all..so I suppose I was very ireesponsible in allowing it to happen.my responsibility is now they stay.which is ok too cos they are great......just glad it wasn' a litter of 15 great danes or newfoundlands or something.would have bankrupted me!lol.
You don't hear anyone hear banging on about horses...cos it's a doggi forum
I myself have found posts in the New Lounge re horse breeding, and I very rarely venture in there...Im sure Mother Hen has sometyhing in her siggi about it.
I don't agree with unnecessary horse breeding or any animal for that matter....dogs are produced on a much greater scale than horses...being able to be breed from them every 6 months with up to 8 at a time, Im not getting the point re them roaming the streets...u see far less dogs these days roaming around the streets compared to the past....it's the rescue center that are over flowing...much the same as Im sure horse sancturies are.
