Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem with their chocolate Bromonts as me? I looks after these boots religously (as they were so expensive!), wiping them off and cleaning them after every ride, then usually polishing them before using them again. You'll see from the pics why I polish them each time.

Before I walked up to the yard this afternoon, these boots shone and looked like new - after and hour or so of getting two horses ready, then lunging one in a short grass (dampish) field then riding another, they look like this:

I use Ariat chocolate polish and liquid wax on them, but no matter what combination I use these in, every time I use the boots, they look like a big pile of poop. Apart from the water stains, where the leather creases, the colour always goes light almost immediately after putting them on. I don't expect £250 boots to be this hard to look after or to look like this after loads of elbow grease....my Dubarrys certainly don't.

I have mailed Ariat to see if they have any thoughts, but wondered if anyone else had this problem? I bought them last September at Burghley and they haven't been worn that much, maybe 50 times, always for riding, not plodging around in.

Ariat are pretty good so you should get a positive outcome. I had similar withy saddle, I thought the dye had rubbed out but turned out it needed conditioning. I was recommended the brown effax and after 3 treatments it has come up great. I had used other conditioners on it before but this one worked. It depends if the leather is dyed all the way through or not.

I agree, contact them to see what they have to say. I have the same but in black and wear them every day and mine look nothing like yours do. Hope you can get something sorted and you say they are not cheap. Good luck

Hi
I just wipe any muck sweat etc off with a damp cloth and use Stubben saddle soap on mine. They always look great and are lovely and supple, nothing like yours which look very dry.
Janet.

Janet, that's exactly what I expect I should be able to do, but no go! I usually wipe them off with saddle soap, and that is what I do with my other boots. Tbh, they don't feel dry, they are quite supple, but something isn't right. They just seem to absorb water into the leather.

Are these the waxed chocolate ? Looks like the wax wore off? I have the chocolate ones and nothing like this happened....! Arita are pretty good but you'll have to send the boots to them, ring them and they will send a free postage label by email.

Ariat got back to me this morning and have said to send them in.....she says that the chocolate does wear quite quickly in terms of creasing, but they don't sound quite right, so they want to have a look.

Seems they turn them around quite quickly so hopefully have a response soon.

She said if I was putting the conditioner on dry boots, brushing excess off, then polishing, they should be coming up well and remaining so, which they are not.

Well, just had a delivery from FedEx - brand new pair of boots!

No explanation, the delivery note just says 'replacement on this occasion' so I don't know what they discovered about my old pair.

Have to say, the customer service has been excellent - I e-mailed them last Thursday, posted the boots on Friday and today have recieved a new pair.

Far superior to Merrell, to whom I sent some expensive cross trainers back to last year (goretex wasn't working). I washed them off before they went back and dried them - 6 weeks later still no reponse, so rang Merrell who went off and found my shoes in a cupboard, unwrapped from the box and plastic I had put them in, so they had gone completely mouldy! Couldn't help thinking if they had opened them when they arrived things might have been easier, a la Ariat. Can't think they get that many pairs of shoes back that they have to shove them away for 6 weeks.....

Anyway, thanks Ariat, but not looking forward to breaking a new pair in (although they are lovely!)....they skinned the back of my knee last time until they dropped, but so comfy later so worth it!

I did have a feeling that they would do this, but did not want to say before in case they did not. I have heard this before with them, they really are a geat company with very very good customer service. Well done Ariat, great news for you

This post has been really helpful, how have your new boots been so far? I'm debating between the waxed chocolate and waxed black for myself. Really can't decide.

I love these boots and I have the chocolate . I only use mine for riding and use proper boot polish in the tins, never used Ariat polish. They come up like new and the Dark Tan polish is a brilliant match and seems to re-dye the leather. One pair I have just sold as they were from when I was bigger in the leg, they were 3 years old and looked like new apart from the usual creases.
