Elvis' weight has had a bit of a Yo Yo year. He started off a bit too lean due to a liver issue that drastically reduced his appetite.

We then let him enjoy the good grass in the summer, which he enjoyed a little too much and became a bit poddy.

And finally this is him yesterday. I think he's about right (he's TB x Shire so shouldn't be as lean as a full TB IMO)

It's been a bit of a roller coaster year, and it's a shame he hasn't muscled up yet, but he has had the majority of the year off for various injuries and ailments. And his low set neck doesn't help the appearance of his top line. Hopefully in 6 months time he'll look much more developed. I look at him everyday so don't notice subtle changes, what do you guys think? Are we heading in the right direction?

Wow thank you everyone :) I'm just pleased he's back in full work. I *think/hope* he'll look really smart when his top line improves. :)

He is very smart already OP! He looks very well. I'm no expert but I've spent the last year focussing on condition, top line and core strength (if only I paid as much attention to myself as my horse haha) and he does look good but I'd agree with you, he's got scope to build up more topline and core strength, although the latter is harder to tell from a photo. But he looks pretty damn good in the last 2 photos, and not really that bad in the first !

I know AA, he's only a 1/4 Shire. His sire is pure American TB and his dam is TBxShire (50/50) but he definitely took after his sire. The only slight sign is he grows quite long feathers if I don't trim them! And he has the attitude more akin to a Shire.

Spot_On: I can't believe the difference in shine from the first photo to the last- both taken in the winter, on the same feed and rugging etc. His coat is just so dull in the first photo- and he was ill then, so his current shiny coat reassures me he's in good health!
