Ill keep this short and sweet cause I'm shattered!

I found out Liath was in foal on May 20th and myself, farrier, stud people, YM etc all reckoned she was due to foal the end of July/August. The plan was to spend this weekend at Equifestival (big horse show in Cavan) and move her to the stud tonight when I got back.

But oohhhh noo....Liath likes to do her own thing!

I fed and checked over Liath on Friday and she looked grand, still had a small bag etc. So obviously that was normal. I arranged for someone to feed her on the Saturday (who did say she seemed a bit narky...but just thought she was being hormonal!) and I was meant to be back this evening so would feed and move her once I got back.

Liath on Friday

Got a call about 8.30pm yesterday (Saturday) to say she was bagging up...ah I figured she wasn't ready and would hold on a day...at least till I was back from Cavan! She had the foal by half 12! I found out about 3.30am (after it was walking etc) and headed home from Cavan as soon as I'd a few hours sleep! Was in the field with her by half eleven ...

I go away for one day in the whole summer and she has it then! Arrghh! I've been at the yard every single day since I found out she was in foal! But sure these things happen ... foaling was grand but the foal took about 2 and a bit hours to get up...so were wondering if he was a bit premature? This is Liaths 4th foal....so she's being a fab mom letting me (and fellow liveries) up close and even letting us pet the foal! She's a natural!

We now have a gorgeous little bay colt with 2 white socks on his front legs. I am delighted!! I literally cannot believe it ... it seems so surreal!

No names as of yet...kinda have one or two in my head so feel free to make a few suggestions! We like irish names or irish themes etc

Lovely foal, do you know who the sire is at all?
As he is a surprise foal maybe Iontas? (surprise in irish.)
Looks to have an ID or half bred sire, and looks like he will grey out.
Sneaky mare's always wait until you have gone to pop-they can feel when you plan anything and plot accordingly!
Good luck with him :D
