Pics below of my lurcher boys, Jack and Oliver, on their 14th birthday, getting some cake to celebrate!

They are greyhound/whippet/bedlingtons and just fantastic. Both are pretty well, Ollie a bit arthritic, but metacam seems to keep him moving and happy. Both are just about deaf however, so hand signals have to be employed!

Happy birthday Jack and Ollie:) There seem to be quite a few dogs celebrating their 14th birthdays at the moment, and all looking great for their age. Love the picture where he is licking his lips looking at the cake.

gorgeous mutts :)

And a ripe old age. My lurcher will be 17 this October. They do seem to be long lived beasties don't they?

think it is that hybrid vigour Jesstickle..... 17 is a grand age! I hope J & O will keep going that long and still be comfortable, though I think Ol's arthritis will catch up with him at some point :(

It seems (maybe just coincidence, certainly not an empirical statement!) that sadly, I have heard recently of many full pedigrees, spaniels, daschunds, labs and beardies to name just a few that have so many problems and don't live that long. Fingers crossed that my youngest two (bred from my blue merle farm collie to Jack, the blue lurcher in the pics) will be genetically fit and so super long lived!

Mine is pretty shonky now and like yours on metacam but he still loves his walks and whilst he can't jump on the sofa anymore (thank goodness, he's a very bony seating companion) he still seems perfectly happy in himself. We thought we were going to lose him earlier in the year but he's bounced back incredibly well. He is deaf and has cataracts but he still manages to know when food falls on the floor in the kitchen. Typical thieving lurcher!

The photos of him at the beach in the lurcher thread were only taken in June I think. I hope yours last as long as mine :)
