I have just worked out how to use the albums to insert images (or I think I have we'll soon see) and so I thought about a new thread for pictures

So please share pics and stories about your first pony ...

No matter if you were 50 and your 'pony' was 17.2 (like my Husband) or if you were 5 and your pony was a Shetland with attitude.

So to get started here is my first pony Peggy-Sue

I was about 17 when I got her from a small add in H and H. She had been a useless trekking pony then was sold to a nice young girl who was terrified of her. When I went to try her she cantered off with everyone. Peggy was about 12 or 14 when I got her, 14.2 of unknown breeding. The vet who vetted her sent me a 'good luck with this highly strung pony' note! In some ways I was very stupid to buy her as it did take me a long time and a lot of patience and a great deal of learning to learn to ride her and make her what I wanted. I had been riding about 2 years when I bought her and had never been the most confident of riders. But by the time I was 20 I had a lovely all rounder who i could do anything with and take anywhere. Here I am riding her at the riding school where I worked, it was in the evening after our annual show which is why I am half wearing smart clothes and half not! I loved that Pony and kept her till she died of colic at the age of about 27 ... SO that's my first Pony.

(actually this is a bit of a lie I part owned a pony on working livery for about 6 months before getting Peggy but he and I never got along, I sold him to someone who adored him, laughed when he bucked, and did very well jumping him)

This is my first pony... well horse really.

I had been riding since I was very young but gave up at 16 when boys and going out was more interesting. I then decided at 19 I should start again so took myself off for a lunge lesson. Realised I could still ride and so took myself off for a part loan. Tried a couple until I ended up on one yard riding a 16.3 ex show jumper (talk about throwing yourself in at the deep end I am only 5"3) anyway he was quite highly strung and once I asked him to pop over a small jump I couldn't stop, he took off with me round the school at a hundred miles an hour jumping this fence over and over. After we finally stopped I agreed to take him. Thankfully as it turned out the yard owner had other ideas and steered me in the direction of a 4yr old warmblood x tb mare which she had backed. So it was agreed I would come down and help with jobs around the yard and in return I could ride anything that wouldn't kill me (she backs youngsters and has 'naughty' horses sent for schooling plus breeding her own). I quickly fell in love with HB, sure you can see why, here is a picture of her at 5

Eventually I took her on full loan and then subsequently bought half of her. Unfortunately (or not depending on how you look at it) as it turned out she was massively talented and needed to be out doing more than I had time for so sold her to a lovely lady who loves her to pieces and is eventing her and I can still ride her every now and again if I like. Her new owner has agreed if anything ever happened to her she would come back to me, rideable or not. Although in all honesty I know she has a home for life. I learnt more than I could ever imagine at this yard including helping deliver foals, dealing with first aid after serious accidents and generally every secret remedy you could ever learn.

I then bought my second horse who really I would class as my first as I had so much support on my old yard I never had to do anything alone whereas now I have moved I have to look after him all by myself.

and here he is

He's absolutely gorgeous, what a kind face!

Thank you very much, he is my pride and joy and along with being extremely beautiful (not biased honest) he has the biggest character and is generally completely hilarious!! I could go on all day about how much I love him... don't worry I won't but he is pretty much the best horse ever!:D

This pony was a livery on our yard, my mum was the YM and Kitty used to babysit me while my mum was busy!

This is Henry, my first pony when I was 13 - I had him on loan from a trekking centre. He gave me so much confidence.

The first pony I owned was Gabby, fabulous Fell pony and all round Pony Club star!

Happy memories! :)

this was my first pon!

haha no i'm joking, i got my first pony when i was born! she was a Bogof and arrived 2 weeks after i did, and we named her Skippy the Kangaroo because she arrived when our family was travelling in Aussie and her front took ages to keep up with her backend, she was a piece of work, when i was 6 i was off the lead rein and being dragged around when out hunting and being bolted with left right an centre but i was never scared of her, she use to chase my sister and i out the field when we tried to catch her and she use to steal food off my mums horse(the one i'm riding in the picture above) i love this pony soo much, we still own her today and she is now out on loan to two lovely girls who love her as much as we do, we are both now 18!
