Can anyone help me out with pics of the above? Liv is getting a full clip as she is just far too hot in work and will continue to be.

I plan to take it all off but my friend is going to help me blend down to leave her full feather. In my head this looks ok but I could be nuts and she will look horrendous. Does anyone have any examples of this?

Thanks

What if you leave her legs on like a hunter clip? That's what I do with my Welsh D mare in winter and it looks lovely. I never leave a saddle patch though.

Here is izzy. he is clipped all year.

Saw one hack past the yard this morning. Fully clipped out, mane to it's elbows, tail on the ground and feathers that had been 'trimmed', sadly he looked ridiculous, his legs looked like tatty bog brushes.

I guess if you show as a traditional coloured you have to leave everything on, but if you don't and in this heat, it's off with the lot for me.

I'm curious, doesn't Izzy get sunburnt on his pink bits if he is clipped in the summer?

OP, I'd say go for it! If your horse looks silly, their coat won't take long to grow out at this time of year.

He goes out at night in the summer - 4.30 pm to about 9 am - so misses most of the sun. But when he has just been clipped (for about 7 -10 ten days) he wears a UV fly rug to keep the sun off otherwise he would burn on his pink bits.

This pic was taken on the day after a clip so you can see the pink bits. After a week or so he has enough hair to cover the pink.

We have to clip round his feathers when he was being shown. We'd tried rugging him to keep his coat....but no such luck so off it had to come as he's too sweaty.

Looks extremely silly to start with...but time it for a week or so before whatever show and it blends out fine:

Thanks guys, all very helpful.

We aren't likely to do anything than an intro test for the next couple of months so her legs should blend like your beautiful boy CS!

Lovely horses.

The long awaited clip is happening tomorrow and I am sure she will be much more comfortable after that!

If any one wants to post more pics of their clippedbutstillhairy cobs I would love to see more!!

tiga71 - Love your IZZY!
Am finding our trad ,with the biggest tail ever , and long mane, is sweating buckets in the field in this heat , so must be brought in during day. Am thining of a full clip , except he doesnt like clippers.....

LOL feathered !! I will try and dig out a pic of when I first got her - she was REALLY blue and white when I bought her (had been horribly clipped - mane chopped, feathers gone :( )

Thank you Billie1007 - she's is ever so kind and she's technically blue and white - though definitely pink when clipped. :D

And she used to be terrified of clippers, would throw herself away from you and shake in the corner. 6 years on (used sedolin for the first 5 years) she will now be clipped, good as gold - so they do get used to it.
