pictures of my one eared foal as promised, before skin graft

In the article H&H have done, it says the dog was asleep in the stable and the foal probably rolled on it, Is this true?? Was the dog shut in with the foal or could it go in and out as it pleased?

Just being nosey!

the dog was able to go inand out as i have chains across and i totally disagree with the above post it could happen to anyone the people who owned the dog had horses and the dog was brought up with horses from a pupy the dog as i understand was 5 years old so if thats the case anyone with a dog around horses must be irrisponsible. al animals are unpredictable

I think you know that that's probably not true. But either way it's a terrible thing to have happened for all involved.

Do you not shut the bottom door then - just rely on chains to keep the horses in - even overnight?

I'm afraid if I had a foal and a dog was regularly entering it's stable I'd be keeping the door shut all the time, rather than leaving a chain across.

Stupid thing to do, but I am sure you know that more than anyone now

Whats done is done, such a shame for the foal and for the dog. I wish you all the best with the foals recovery.

Do you know... we have 3 dogs at the yard and no full doors on the stables. They all have a 2 foot gap underneath them. I happen to know that the dogs sleep in the stables when the horses aren't in there and they can get in and out as they please. It never ONCE crossed my mind that one of them might attack my foal (who is in at night as we've got a puma doing the rounds). I truly think this was a horrible accident that could certainly have happened at my yard (now I have to think about what to do about the doors, although Roni (Rhodesian Ridgeback) could jump any one of them.)

Can I ask why the dog was PTS?

If you truly believe it was an accident as the H&H article states, then you must assume the dog was protecting itself?

It said the dog was 'cowering in the corner covered in blood' - was it injured?

Knowing how playful foals are I'm wondering whether the dog was mooching around the stable and the foal jumped on it??

Poor little dog and poor foalie.
