Piebald near Crowland - Supsected Colic URGENT

Hi All,

This is a long shot - but does anyone know who owns the 2 piebald ponies, and foal who are in a field off the A1073 near Wyevale Garden Centre just past crowland.

I think that the gelding in there may have colic, when I drove past to work I saw him looking very tucked up, ears back, looking at his belly and constantly kicking with both back legs.

I have called the RSPCA and BHS welfare line, but am concerned they may take a while to get over to them - I have stressed how urgent it is.

Is there anything else I can do? I am really worried about him poor lad.

They do have some hay in the field, but no shelter other than a few stragely trees, no rugs, and prob frozen water. I have seen a lady giving them hay in the past so know they are not abandoned there.

If anyone is close and could go check on him that would be really helpful - i am worried about him but am at work now so wont be able to go and look at him until later - I really think he needs a vet ASAP.

If anyone can help or give me any more advice of how I could find the owner I would appreciate it.

Oh god no help but do hope that this lil chap gets attention quickly then....i would have no idea, what about old bill? to trace??
fingers crossed that someone soon gets to him incase it is colic

I am sure its colic - my eldery lad suffers from spasmodic colic every now and again and his symptoms are identical.

i did think about contacting the police - but I dont think they would be able to help quickly enough as they wouldnt see it as a priority,

The BHS welfare line were really helpful - I am hoping they can assist as know the RSPCA can be slow, I really really hope that someone gets to him.

He had obviously been stood kicking for a while as it was all muddy round him - and snowy everywhere else.

I am at work but just cant stop thinking about him,

awww we'll well done to you for contacting the relevant people in the first place and lets hope and pray they get to him in time then poor chap, its really not nice is it seeing someone elses animals in pain and you cant locate them...

think maybe signs should be put up or at least police stations having field kept horses owner's numbers on the incase of anything.

Please can you update on any outcome.....i am too now thinking of this lil guy...
 
Sorry I don't know the area so can't really help but are the ponies near enough to the Garden Centre for some-one there to know who they belong to? If so you could get the GC's tel no from yellow pages and ring them to make enquiries? You would need to stress how serious colic can be because non-horse owners do not understand the urgency.

I *think* the guy is a traveller but he does go up there at least twice a day to check on them - usually earlyish on (pass him when I'm on lates so 8:45 ish) and late pm

Both looked happy and were munching at the hay bale when I passed at 7:35 this morning - I always look

will text OH - he works in crowland and one of the ladies is a local farmers wife so they may know - OH should be going back to the office soon so I'll ask him to go that way round

I hope he's ok, I love seeing the fluffy little fellas when I go past! Really hope someone is able to get to him.

ahhh Miller thank you, yes i always have a look at them too.

I passed at about 9.00 and he really didnt look happy at all, please let me know if someone has managed to have a look and see how he is.

Right, its my lunch time now and, I am just going to leave work and drive past to see how he is doing, I cant stop thinking about him...

I would suggest that you contact WHW World Horse Welfare as they have inspectors who cover the whole of Great Britain and specialise in horses where as the RSPCA do not.

Details below:
