Is this the best thing for mud fever? Currently battling it and have tried all the usual stuff- hibiscrub, udder cream, sudocream... and they work on the infected area only for it to reappear on another part of the legs and was wondering whether to give pig oil and sulphur a go? Any advice appreciated!

Can work well - did for an arab on the yard - first time ever she went a winter without MF after I gave owner some of my P&S. Our beastie are covered in it all winter but they also have lots of hair which is a natural barrier.

Assuming you are not blessed with beasts of hair, oil up legs at least every other day - mud will slip off as it dries out. No need to wash it off - in fact washing causes more harm as it is better to leave the P&S to build up.

I also use sudocream mixed with sulphur and tea tree on the heels of non blessed horses as protection - if you want the whole load of P&S stuff I do, PM me and I'll send it to you.

it was traditionally used to treat feather mites in heavy horses like shires, and i know loads of people in yorkshire who still use it to prevent mud fever.

you need to mix it to a thick paste, and apply it to clean dry legs. Wash off every day with neat hibi-scrub (the one from the vet or saddler, not the version from the pharmacist as it is too diluted) before drying the legs off for at least a couple of hours in the stable and then re-applying when the horse goes out.

the best thind i found was flamazine for infected ares then as a barrier a pot of vasaline with about 20 to 30 drops of tea tree oil mixed in the vasaline works as the barrier has the tea tree works as the anti fungal and anti bacterical and the soothing propertys!
