pig oil and sulphur

vet has advised using it for my young cob who has been diagnosed with mallenders and sallenders...

My friend is going to buy some for her (Very hairy) irish cob who is prone to mud fever. Apparently it works wonders.

We used to use it daily on the shires.It stopped them getting greasy heal so it could work on your horse.Does it have much if any discharge??.

no hardly any discharge but its like a clear but yellow, the skin is cracked though and a bit pink and sore, vet wasnt overlyt concerned though and said the pig oil and sulphur although wouldnt cure my boy but would help with the symptoms?...

Are the areas you refer to behind the knee? It's quite common for heavy horses and cobs to have this condition. It's not usually a problem but if you feel it needs treatment be careful when trying to remove the dry skin as it can become sore and even infected. If it's just the dry skin you are concerned about then use a flea comb to gently remove the dead skin that becomes caught in the hair. You can then use the pig oil and sulpher ( mix to a custard consistancy) on the area to condition the skin. I don't think you can cure it as I just think it's inherant to that type of horse.

It is brillians stuff, you can also mix sulphur, sudocrem and a couple of drops of tea tree to put on sore bits behind knee, it does go a bit clumpy and grubby for a bit but works wonders.

Pig oil is amazing stuff.
