Hi

Pls can someone help, slightly confused!

What is pig oil and sulphur? Is it simply used as a barrier or can it be used to treat areas where the skin is broken such as mud fever and rubs etc?

Is it similar to udder cream?

Thanks

It's an efficient barrier for horses with dense feather; the oil keeps the skin waterproofed and the feather soft, while the sulphur protects against mites.

It's been used for donkeys' years by heavy horse owners and I can't think of anything that works better..

you can use p.o on its own for manes and tails as well mixed with the sulphur which seems to keep the skin in good order.

You can get it ready mixed from ebay or make your own by getting flowers of sulphur from a chemist. Baby oil is a good substitute if you can't find pig oil (which is a mineral oil used on pigs to make them shine at shows-think it's coconut based).

Always ensure you do a patch test before using it all over the legs as it may cause a reaction: weirdly, it works on one leg for my boy bit made mudfever worse on the other leg. The sulphur gets rid of the scabs and the oil obviously softens them but it can burn if you add too much sulphur.

fantastic stuff - the to pics of my boy in my siggie were taken 8 months apart, that's how well it makes the hair grow. And it's fab for preventing mud fever. sm x
