Thanks and also how do i stop cracked heals?

just bumping for you...I was told there is a great product, possibly made by battles that draught/heavies owners swear by...other than that I'm no help to you but keenly awaiting replies to this...

Pig oil for my boy - been using it for 4 years and he has not had a return of the dreaded mud fever. He had it so bad his first year I had him - he had to have antibiotics twice

I am new to pig oil and sulphur (new to feathers too) and as a fellow clay soil dweller have been impressed thus far. I had always just used canter coat shine on legs to help mud slide off. I used keratex mud barrier powder on my old mare (non feathered) who had a tendency to get a little mud fever and it worked a treat. Never had any whilst using it, however a little pricey for a feathered beast.

I would say if you haven't got mud fever or cracked heels then PO&S is the way to go to help keep clean and prevent it, however I am not sure it would be my product of choice if I was already having problems. I found it stung in a cut on my hand.

I have been told to reapply every 2 week - 4 weeks, whenever the feathers are feeling dry/not oily. Not sure about wet legs though, I am guessing you wouldn't get such good coverage. Also having covered my self and the stable in oil first time round, the best way for me to get it on is to use an old washed out hair dye bottle, the ones that have the application nozzle. 1 bottle is just the right amount to do one leg on my pony, you can get it right down to the skin and you can keep giving it a good shake .
