Pigeon poo in water trug

In the past I've tried making a sort of barrier, putting a ring of pipe insulation inside the tub so that the crap doesn't reach the water

I wonder if @Red-1 's BF could come up with something as it seems to be a common problem, and is mightily annoying when you have to carry all the water and frequently find a newly scrubbed and filled tub with just one poo sat at the bottom
Right, he's done some research and wonders if a water container he did for me last winter would be better. He didn't know it was an issue until I read your post out. The water container is an insulated one, so wider and possibly not so easy for their little feet to grab. I'll get it out and see, but it is tucked away for winter so may not be immediate!

Apparently, they don't like gripping on something that's too wide for their feet.

Thank you both!

get the red gorilla xl 75 l bucket and fill it half full, the birds can’t reach to drink and it still holds plenty of water! Works a treat!

One of the girls on my yard bought a garden ornament of an owl and fixed it to the post above the water trough, works a treat!
A friend of mine tried that with the pigeons in her hayloft, they just knocked it off the beam. So YMMV on the fake owl.
