Pikeur breeches sizing

Help please. I am usually a size 12 which apparently in Pikeur is 40/26. I had the size 42/28 initially and they were fairly loose around the waist and legs which I knew would get worse with riding. Exchanged for the 40/26 and these are better on the legs but very snug on the waist! Grrr.
Most other breeches I have the size 12 equates to a 40.
What have other people found?
So annoying but expensive not to get right!

I'm a size 10-11 and am a 26 or 28 in Pikeur, tbh it depends on the fabric... the thermal winterweight breeches aren't stretchy so you might need to size up a bit, the denim is pretty firm but true to size imho, the stretch cotton is a little more giving.
Obv it depends on the size of your legs in relation to your waist too... it's like jeans, some fit great, others have the wrong sort of ratio for ones individual shape...
