Hi - Following some advice I've decided to give pilates a go to improve my core strength - which will hopefully (!) help to improve my dressage riding. Can anybody recommend any good pilates dvd's to try at home?
thanks

There are a number of these on the market. Why don't you try going to a Pilates class. It's much more fun than going to that with people to have a chat and a giggle with than slogging it out in front of the TV. I have been going to a class every Monday for about the last 3 months now and although I wouldn't say I look forward to it (as its hard work) its nice to have a catch up with people in the group. I do Pilates as I have a slipped disc but its really helped with my back pain.

I cant do pilates, i cant get the breathing, i just get more and more nervous and then panic starts to set in, i dont know if its a lack of coordination but it stesses me out SO much, Ill look out a dvd i have, if you want, if i find it ill pm you and send it to you.

I would recommend classes too, at least to get you started. It's not an easy discipline - there's a lot to do at once, and if it's worth doing it's worth doing properly - I find an instructor really helps. Just using a DVD means you don't know if you're doing it right.
I love pilates, found it helped my back pain and improved my riding a lot.

thats why i tried it, but im stuck here with no local class, maybe one day, someone will start one up, its a bit backward here in spain at times.

Hi, I do "10 mintute solutions Pilates" dvd, think the instructor is called Lara something. Its 5 sections of 10 mins each, I started off just doing one per night and in three weeks I noticed a massive difference (I can now mount from the ground which I couldnt do for toffee before!) its only £3 from play.com and its free delivery. worth a look.

I just tried my first class today because all my horsey friends recommend it and loved it! I was expecting to be bored/tired but instead I feel like someone has given me a massage

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions.

I now have plenty of ideas to keep me busy and I'll let you know if I find that pilates actually helps my riding!

QR - I've got the Pilate for Dummies DVD. Had it 2 years now and never watched it yet! Funnily enough I dug it out last night to give it a try now that I've finally got my (ample) bum in gear and have started a bit of fitness regime this week.
