Ideas desperately needed for my princess of a pony who wont take her medicine.
Digging holes and hiding them in carrots/apples is a no no as she's just been diagnosed with insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome after a minor bout of lami so no sugary yum yums even in the form of fruit and veg allowed at all.
Now on box rest she's being super stroppy and Ive somehow got to get her to munch on bute and 22 PILLS A DAY:eek:.
I keep trying to tell her shes only going to be dosed up for 5 weeks but she wont listen and stomps off to the other end of the stable for a strop.

Thinking caps on please.

Will she eat marmite? I have found that provided horses will eat marmite, you could hide a ton of the most horrible tasting medicine in a marmite sandwich and it would be eaten and your hand licked clean before you can cross your fingers.

the linseed is a good idea, they already get lots in their feed but I can try making some balls too.
Tried marmite too, she spat it all out.
Any more ideas ?

Aparently a coffeee grinder works well on those pills and makes them easier to disguise in their food. Could be worth a go? (I'm guessing metformin? )

22 pills is nothing, I once used to have to give 90 a day!

Grind them down to powder with pestle and mortar then mix into a small feed with something like sugar beet as a binder.
If you haven't a pestle and mortar, put them in a clean tea towel and beat hell out of them with a rolling pin or something else heavy enough; make sure it's all a powder, no chunks left.
